Emergency Vet Clinic in Charlotte, NC

At Quail Hollow Veterinary Hospital, our experienced and compassionate team is able to provide the quality care your pet needs when it matters most. In addition to our routine preventative care and other veterinary services, we also offer emergency care for pets facing urgent medical situations or injuries. Our emergency vet clinic is available to handle urgent and emergency cases during our regular office hours, Mondays through Saturdays. Please note we are closed on Sundays.

If your pet is experiencing a medical emergency during our office hours, we only ask that you give our office a call on your way in (if possible). This way, our staff can do everything in their power to ensure a veterinarian is available to see your pet as soon as possible when you arrive.

Common Pet Emergencies We See and Treat

Unfortunately, medical emergencies in pets can happen suddenly and at any time. We see and treat any number of medical emergencies and life-threatening injuries in our office, with accidental ingestion of poisons/toxins being among the most common. This occurs when a pet eats or otherwise ingests something that is dangerous or fatal, such as a houseplant or even a chemical like antifreeze. Even ingestion of an otherwise harmless foreign object (such as a small children's toy) can become an emergency when the object becomes lodged or creates a blockage in your pet's body.

We also see and treat injuries related to pets being struck by cars and even pets getting into fights with other animals. Some of the most common injuries in these situations include severe cuts and lacerations with bleeding, broken bones, and fractures.

Signs of Emergencies in Pets

Sometimes, it is very obvious to pet owners when an emergency is happening. Other times, however, it may not be so clear. Some common signs pet owners should be on the lookout for that could indicate an emergency needing treatment from our veterinary in Charlotte include:

  • inability to keep food down
  • sudden lethargy and/or loss of appetite
  • unexplained weight loss
  • red, inflamed gums in dogs and cats

If your pet shows any of these signs, or if you find evidence that your pet may have ingested a known toxin, it's important that you seek veterinary care as soon as possible. Every second and minute count.
